HAMAS WINS STUDENT ELECTION

MER - 4/12/98:

Birzeit is the largest and most prestigious university in occupied Palestine. It is also very much dominated by secular administration and faculty, with considerable effort made by the Arafat regime to keep everybody in line and provide support for those willing to "cooperate".

Even so, in the latest elections at Birzeit the "Islamic Bloc" associated with Hamas and opposition to the "Palestinian Authority" won the most seats in the University Student Council.
The following are the official election results released earlier this month by the University:
