WHILE IRAN and ISRAEL CONTINUE TO PREPARE FOR CONFLICT

MER - During the past month MER has published articles outlining:

.

1) How the Israelis manipulate anti-Iranian sentiments and are trying to find a way to bring about an attack on Iran with the intention of greatly weakening Iran and greatly setting back its nuclear weapons efforts -- just as was done to Iraq. How to justify attacking Iran, and how to make sure of American backing or preferably American action against "terrorism", are among Israel's major concerns.

2) How the Likud's real policy is to weaken and discredit the Arafat regime, while simultaneously doing the same to Hamas, with the overall goal of totally demoralizing and controlling the Palestinian people. And how Labor policy is not dissimilar in desires, though considerably different in style and rhetoric and how to best use Yasser Arafat and colleagues.

3) How Israeli and American policies continue to foment an arms race in the Middle East that has gradually become nuclear, chemical, and biological, with an accompanying missile systems arms race as well both for delivery of weapons and for attacking weapons of the other side.

.

4) How an eventual cataclysmic war might result in the Middle East region from the unique combination of fears, hatreds, weapons systems, and historical psychology trauma that come together in that region.

Interestingly, the following short report has just come to our attention from one of the right-wing Israeli organizations that daily feeds information, and disinformation, worldwide primarily using radio and the Internet:

"MORDECHAI: WE MUST FIGHT IRANIAN THREAT"

.

(8/24/97) "Defense Minister Yitzhak Mordechai said today that Israel must take every measure to ward off the Iranian threat, and that Israel is pressuring Moscow greatly not to supply Teheran with the means to develop nuclear weapons. This follows yesterday's talk between Prime Minister Netanyahu and his Chinese counterpart, at which it was clarified that China will not sell Iran the means to develop a nuclear reactor. Mordechai, speaking during a visit in Beit Shemesh, also said that Arafat is making a great mistake when he embraces his Hamas opposition, instead of fighting against their terrorist activities. Prime Minister Netanyahu, visiting in Japan, similarly said today that it could be that Arafat's kiss with Hamas leaders will be a death kiss for the peace process."

And additional information is just coming to attention about the new crisis in Israeli Russian relations. Israel is demanding that the Russians cease helping Iran with the new missiles systems being developed there. And Israel is using the U.S. to put great pressure on the Russian government, or suffer severe economic penalties.

Overall, the Israelis are intent on making sure that the Palestinians remain stateless, destitute, and controlled. That was their policy before the recent Arafat/Hamas meeting; and it would have been their policy without it.

.

As for death kisses, Arafat has been kissing everyone for so long that the only thing new is the greater attention being paid by the Israelis and the cooperative New York Times which featured the recent Arafat/ Hamas embrace in a very large Page 1 photo.

.

Far more important though is the Israeli/American embrace of an ongoing policy of regional control by continually using large amounts of weapons, money, and the CIA to keep the Middle East region in bondage. Now there you have a real death kiss! It just might take another decade or two for the dire consequences to become more evident.
