A major diplomatic row was looming last night after the alleged mastermind of the transatlantic terror plot escaped from police in Pakistan.
Rashid Rauf, a Briton who holds joints Pakistani citizenship, slipped off his handcuffs and fled after appearing in court in Islamabad.
Two police officers have been arrested as investigators probe the possibility that they aided his escape.
The inquiry will concentrate on why security was so lax for Rauf, who is alleged to have been the brains behind the alleged plot to blow up ten American-bound transatlantic planes.
